Costitx

Spain

Costitx is a municipality on the island of Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands region of Spain. It is one of the island's smaller inland municipalities, located in the central part of Mallorca rather than on the coast.

Like other municipalities on Mallorca, Costitx forms part of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands and is administered as a local entity within the island's comarcal structure. The Balearic Islands lie in the western Mediterranean Sea, off the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula.

Costitx is best known for its archaeological significance. The municipality has given its name to the so-called Caps de Bou de Costitx, three ancient bronze bull's head sculptures discovered in the area in 1895, which are among the most notable artifacts from Mallorca's pre-Roman Talaiotic culture. These finds are now held in the National Archaeological Museum in Madrid.
