Keila is a town and urban municipality in Harju County in northwestern Estonia, located approximately 25 kilometers southwest of Tallinn. As of 2025, the town has a population of 11,024 inhabitants and serves as a growing center of attraction in the western Harju County region. The town is situated in a pine forest area with limestone geology and is easily accessible from Tallinn by electric train, with frequent departures taking 38 to 45 minutes, or by a four-lane class I road.
Keila has developed as a significant retail hub with multiple shopping centers and major grocery chains, earning it recognition as an "unofficial capital of retail stores" in the region. The town offers substantial recreational amenities, including three large parks—Keskpark, Jõepark, and Männik—and an extensive network of health trails covering over 70 hectares of limestone-covered pine forest near the town center. These trails accommodate jogging, biking, skiing, and hiking, while additional facilities include a swimming pool and water park, sledding hill, adventure park, disc golf course, and athletics stadium.
Cultural and educational facilities in Keila include the Harjumaa Museum, Saint Michael's Church, a cultural center, and Keila School, along with multiple nursery schools and a Waldorf method school. The town also provides access to nearby attractions such as the Arvo Pärt Centre, Keila-Joa manor and park, Padise monastery, Rummu quarry, and regional beaches including Laulasmaa, which is approximately 10 to 15 minutes away by car or train.
