Río Grande is a town in the Puerto Plata province of the Dominican Republic. It is one of the smaller settlements within that northern coastal province, which lies on the country's Atlantic side.
The town shares its name with the Río Grande, the river that flows through the area and gives the municipality its name. Like much of the surrounding region, the landscape is shaped by the river valley and the nearby mountains of the Cordillera Septentrional.
Río Grande is located in the Puerto Plata region, an area known for its beaches, its colonial-era port city of Puerto Plata, and its agricultural production. The town is not among the Dominican Republic's major tourist destinations, and it retains the character of a small provincial community.
