Glashutten

Germany

Glashütten is a municipality in the district of Bayreuth, in the German state of Bavaria. It is located in the administrative region of Upper Franconia (Oberfranken), in the northern part of Bavaria.

The settlement lies in the hill country of the Franconian Jura, a landscape characterised by wooded slopes and limestone plateaus. Like many small communities in the district of Bayreuth, it is a rural municipality with a scattered, village-based pattern of settlement rather than a single dense urban core.

Glashütten is one of several places in German-speaking Europe bearing this name, which literally means "glassworks" and reflects the region's historical glassmaking tradition. It should not be confused with the larger municipality of the same name in Hesse. As a municipality of the Bayreuth district, it forms part of the wider economic and administrative framework of Upper Franconia.
