Saliña is a residential area located in southeast Curaçao within the eastern part of Willemstad, the capital. The name derives from the Papiamentu word for salt lake, referring to the historical water feature that once characterized the area.
Originally established as the plantation Saliña Abou in 1726, the neighborhood has undergone significant transformation over the centuries. Most of the salt lake has been poldered—a process of reclaiming land from water—to make way for modern housing developments that define the area today.
