Cartago is a city in southwestern Colombia, located in the extreme northern portion of the Valle del Cauca department. It lies about 301 kilometres (187 mi) west of Bogotá and sits very close to the city of Pereira in the neighbouring department of Risaralda, roughly a 20-minute drive away.
With a population of 142,902 recorded in the 2018 Colombian census, Cartago is the sixth largest city in Valle del Cauca, after Cali, Palmira, Buenaventura, Tuluá and Jamundí.
