Sucre

Colombia

Sucre is a municipality in the Cauca Department of Colombia, located in the country's southwestern Andean region. It should not be confused with the department of the same name in Colombia's Caribbean region, nor with the city of Sucre in Bolivia.

The town sits in the mountainous terrain characteristic of Cauca Department, an area shaped by the Andean cordilleras that run through southwestern Colombia. Like many municipalities in the region, it is situated at an elevation that gives it a temperate climate relative to the hotter lowlands, and its surroundings are marked by the valleys and slopes typical of the Cauca landscape.

Sucre is one of the smaller and less widely known municipalities within Cauca, and detailed information about its history, economy, and population is limited. It forms part of the administrative network of municipalities that make up the department, whose capital is Popayán. The area's economy and settlement patterns reflect those of the broader Cauca region, which is known for agriculture and for a significant Indigenous and Afro-Colombian presence.
