Nanping is a third-tier prefecture-level city located in the northwestern region of Fujian Province, China. It serves as a regional hub situated near several provincial borders, neighboring Ningde to the east and Sanming to the south, while bordering the provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangxi to the north and west.
The geography of the prefecture is notable for containing a portion of the well-known Wuyi Mountains range. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 2,680,645 residents. Of this total, approximately 795,448 people resided within the primary built-up area, which consists of the Yanping and Jianyang urban districts.
Recent demographic data indicates that the permanent population is projected to be approximately 2.623 million as of late 2024 and early 2025.
