Jiamao is a settlement in the southern part of Hainan, the island province of China. It is best known as the namesake of the Jiamao language, a form of speech used by communities in this part of the island.
The Jiamao language is notable for being highly divergent from other Kra-Dai languages, the family to which it is usually assigned. Because of this divergence, some classifications treat it as a possible language isolate rather than a straightforward member of the Kra-Dai group. Its speakers refer to themselves by an autonym recorded as "1" in linguistic sources.
Beyond its association with this distinctive language, Jiamao is a small local centre in southern Hainan. The surrounding area is part of the island's tropical landscape, and the community is among the places where Hainan's lesser-known linguistic diversity is preserved.
