Luoba is a town in Guangdong Province, China. It is located in the northern part of the province, within the administrative area of Shaoguan, a prefecture-level city in the mountainous region bordering Hunan and Jiangxi. The surrounding area is largely rural and hilly, typical of northern Guangdong's inland terrain.
The town is not to be confused with the Lhoba (also spelled Luoba), a Sino-Tibetan-speaking ethnic group of southeastern Tibet. That group lives in and around Pemako, in Mainling, Medog and Zayu counties of Nyingchi and Lhunze County of Shannan, and is counted among China's 56 officially recognised ethnic groups, a status granted by the State Council in August 1965. The name "Lhoba" is a Tibetan exonym meaning "southerners."
Beyond its location and administrative status, little verifiable information about the town of Luoba is available. It should be distinguished from the ethnic group and from other places bearing the same or similar names.
