Jiangnan is a geographic area in East China, referring to the lands immediately to the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, including the southern part of its delta. It is a region rather than a single city, and it is distinct from any city of the same name.
The region encompasses Shanghai, the southeast of Jiangsu, the southeast of Anhui, a tiny part of northeast Jiangxi, and Zhejiang Province. Among its most important cities are Ningbo, Anqing, Changzhou, Hangzhou, Shaoxing, Suzhou, Wuxi, and Wenzhou.
