The Nanling, also known as the Wuling, is a major mountain range located in southern China. It serves as a significant geographical boundary, separating the Pearl River Basin from the Yangtze Valley and acting as the dividing line between central and southern subtropical zones.
The main range of the Nanling Mountains extends approximately 600 kilometers (370 miles) from west to east, stretching from Guilin and Hezhou in eastern Guangxi to Ganzhou in southern Jiangxi. The range spans roughly 200 kilometers (120 miles) from north to south between Yongzhou and Chenzhou in southern Hunan and Qingyuan and Shaoguan in northern Guangdong. Including its various branches, the mountain system extends for a total of 1,400 kilometers (870 miles).
