Huangshan, which translates literally to "Yellow Mountain(s)," is a mountain range located in the southern Anhui province of eastern China. The range was originally known as Yishan before being renamed due to a legend stating that the Yellow Emperor performed alchemy at this site.
The geography of the range features distinct vegetation zones based on elevation. Dense vegetation is found primarily below 1,100 meters (3,600 ft), while trees continue to grow up to the treeline at approximately 1,800 meters (5,900 ft).
