Gongli

China

Gongli is a town in Shaanxi Province, China. It is located in the northern part of the province, within the Loess Plateau region, an area characterised by deep deposits of wind-blown silt and heavily eroded terrain.

Like much of northern Shaanxi, the surrounding area is primarily agricultural, with farming adapted to the dry conditions and uneven landscape of the plateau. The town lies within a region whose settlements are typically small and widely spaced across the loess hills.

Gongli shares its name with the courtesy name of Sun Shao, a general of the state of Eastern Wu during the Three Kingdoms period, but there is no established connection between the historical figure and the Shaanxi town.
