Yueyang is a prefecture-level city in the northeastern corner of Hunan Province in the People's Republic of China. It was formerly known as Yuezhou or Baling.
The city lies on the eastern shores of Dongting Lake and on the Yangtze River. Its position at the meeting of these two major waterways defines its geography within northeastern Hunan.
