Erenhot

China

Erenhot is a county-level city in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China, administered under the Xilingol League. It lies in the Gobi Desert along the border between China and Mongolia, directly across from the Mongolian town of Zamyn-Üüd. The city sits at an elevation of about 966 metres (3,169 feet) and has a population of roughly 74,000.

Its position on the Sino-Mongolian frontier makes the border crossing the city's defining feature, linking the two countries at a remote point in the desert. Erenhot is one of the principal land gateways between China and Mongolia.
