Chengdong

China

Chengdong is a district of Xining, the capital of Qinghai Province in northwest China. It is one of the four districts that make up the prefecture-level city of Xining. The name Chengdong means "city east," reflecting its position on the eastern side of the urban area.

As a district rather than an independent city, Chengdong forms part of Xining's administrative structure and shares in the wider functions of the provincial capital, including its role as a regional centre for government, commerce and transport in Qinghai. Xining itself lies in a river valley on the eastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and the city serves as a gateway between China's interior and the western highlands.

Detailed information on Chengdong's population, landmarks and history is limited in readily available sources, and the district is often confused with other places bearing the same name. It should not be mistaken for the similarly named Chengdong in Liaoning or for other locations using the same Chinese characters.
