Jiangnan is a district of Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China. It lies on the south bank of the Yong River, across from the city's older central districts, and forms one of Nanning's main urban areas.
The name Jiangnan means "south of the river," a common Chinese place name. The district is connected to the rest of Nanning by several bridges over the Yong River, and it has grown substantially as the city has expanded southward.
Note that Jiangnan is also the name of a well-known geographic and cultural region of East China, referring to the lands immediately south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, including Shanghai, southern Jiangsu, southern Anhui, northern Jiangxi, and Zhejiang. That region is distinct from the Guangxi district described here.
