Huangshi, also romanized as Hwangshih, is a prefecture-level city in southeastern Hubei province, People's Republic of China. It lies in the southeastern part of the province, near the Yangtze River corridor that runs through eastern Hubei.
At the 2020 census, Huangshi had a population of 2,469,079 inhabitants. Of that total, 1,567,108 people lived in the built-up area formed by four urban districts together with the city of Daye, which is now part of the agglomeration.
The city is therefore one of the larger urban centres of southeastern Hubei, with its metropolitan population concentrated in its urban districts and the adjoining Daye area rather than spread evenly across the wider prefecture.
