Dongsheng

China

Dongsheng is a city in Heilongjiang Province, in northeastern China. It is located in the northern part of the province, within the region historically known as Manchuria, an area characterized by cold winters and a landscape of plains and forested hills.

Like many settlements in Heilongjiang, Dongsheng is a small administrative centre serving the surrounding rural area, with an economy traditionally tied to agriculture and local trade. The province as a whole is one of China's principal grain-producing regions, and its northern cities are generally less populous than those in the country's coastal provinces.

Detailed, well-established information about this particular Dongsheng is limited, and it should not be confused with the more widely known Dongsheng District of Ordos City in Inner Mongolia, which is a separate place with a population of over 570,000 and a predominantly Han Chinese population with a significant Mongol minority.
