Heshang

China

Heshang is a town in Fujian Province, in southeastern China. It is located on the coast of the Taiwan Strait, in the eastern part of the province. Administratively it falls within Fuqing, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Fuzhou.

The town is best known for its association with the television documentary "River Elegy" (Heshang), a six-part series written by Wang Luxiang and co-written by Su Xiaokang. The documentary was broadcast on China Central Television on June 16, 1988, and portrayed the decline of traditional Chinese culture. The program became influential and was later withdrawn from broadcast.

Heshang's name is shared with the documentary's title, though the town itself is a small coastal settlement rather than a major urban center. Its location in Fujian places it within a region historically oriented toward maritime trade and overseas migration.
