Taobei is a district of Baicheng, a prefecture-level city in Jilin province in northeastern China. It serves as the main urban district of Baicheng and is the seat of the city's central administration and commercial activity.
Taobei was formerly the county-level city of Baicheng. In 1993, when the former Baicheng Prefecture was reorganized into Baicheng prefecture-level city, the prefectural capital — then the county-level city of Baicheng — was renamed Taobei District. The name change distinguished the new urban district from the wider prefecture-level city that took the Baicheng name.
As the core urban district, Taobei contains the densest concentration of population and services within Baicheng. Its history as the prefectural capital reflects its long-standing role as the administrative center of the surrounding region in western Jilin.
