Linhai is a city in China's Jilin province, located in the country's northeast. It is a county-level city, a designation used in China for urban areas that fall below the level of a prefecture-level city and are administered as part of a larger prefecture.
Jilin province lies in the northeast of China, bordering North Korea and Russia, and is characterised by a continental climate with cold, dry winters and warm, humid summers. The province forms part of China's traditional Northeast region, historically known as Manchuria, and its economy has long been associated with agriculture and heavy industry.
Linhai should not be confused with the better-known county-level city of the same name in Taizhou, Zhejiang province, in eastern China, which sits on the banks of the Lin River. The two are distinct places in different parts of the country.
