Guling, formerly romanized as Kuling, is a summer resort town located on top of Mount Lu in Jiujiang, Jiangxi province, China. It sits within the Lushan area of northern Jiangxi, a mountainous region long known for its cool summer climate relative to the surrounding lowlands.
The settlement originated as a resort reserved for European missionaries. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, foreign missionaries and other Western residents established a hill station on Mount Lu, building villas and facilities to escape the heat of the lower Yangtze region. This colonial-era heritage left a distinctive architectural character that survives in the town today.
Guling now serves as the tourist and administration center of the Lushan Geopark, which is designated a World Heritage Site. As the principal base for visitors to Mount Lu, it functions as the gateway to the mountain's scenic areas, and its role as an administrative hub makes it the focal point for managing the geopark and its surrounding protected landscape.
