Lingyuan is a city in the west of Liaoning province in Northeast China. It lies under the administration of Chaoyang City, which is located about 94 kilometres (58 miles) to the east-northeast. The city sits at the western edge of Liaoning, bordering both Hebei province and Inner Mongolia.
Its position at the junction of three provincial-level regions makes it a boundary settlement on the western approaches to Liaoning, rather than a coastal or central urban centre. Administratively it is a county-level city within Chaoyang's jurisdiction.
