Aurora is a town located in central York Region, within the Greater Toronto Area of Southern Ontario, Canada. Situated approximately 48 kilometres (29 miles) north of Downtown Toronto and directly north of Richmond Hill, Aurora is positioned on and around the Oak Ridges Moraine, a significant landform in the region. The town is surrounded by the Greenbelt, a protected area designed to prevent urban sprawl and preserve agricultural and natural lands.
According to the 2021 Census, Aurora had a municipal population that ranked it as the 92nd largest in Canada. This represents a slight increase in its relative ranking compared to previous census cycles, when it was ranked 95th in 2016 and 97th in 2006.
