São Joaquim is a municipality located in the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil. Situated within the Planalto Serrano region, the city is positioned approximately 136 kilometers from Tubarão, 81 kilometers from Lages, and 227 kilometers from the capital city of Florianópolis.
As of 2020, the municipality had a population of 27,139 inhabitants. The local community is characterized by its diverse ethnic composition, which includes residents of Italian, German, Portuguese, Japanese, and Afro-Brazilian descent. Additionally, the area hosts a significant number of residents from other Brazilian states, particularly from Rio Grande do Sul.
