São Luiz Gonzaga is a municipality located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil. Situated approximately 503 kilometers west of the state capital, Porto Alegre, and northeast of the city of Alegrete, it covers a total area of 1,295.68 square kilometers.
The settlement was established in the 17th century as a Jesuit mission town. As of recent records, the municipality has a population of 33,293 residents.
