Santana do Riacho is a municipality in the state of Minas Gerais, in the Southeast region of Brazil. It is one of the many municipalities that make up Minas Gerais, Brazil's fourth-largest state by area and one of its most populous.
The municipality lies within the Serra do Cipó area, a mountainous part of the Espinhaço Range known for its high-altitude grasslands, waterfalls, and rock formations. This setting has made the surrounding region a destination for hiking and nature tourism, and the Serra do Cipó National Park is located near the municipality.
Like other municipalities in Minas Gerais, Santana do Riacho is administered by an elected municipal government, with the seat of local administration in the town of the same name. The area's economy and settlement patterns reflect its interior location within the state, away from the major metropolitan centres of Belo Horizonte and the Minas Triangle.
