Além Paraíba is a city located in the southeastern Zona da Mata region of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The municipality's name reflects its geographical position on the far bank of the Rio Paraíba do Sul.
Historically, the settlement was known as São José d'Além Parahyba until it was officially renamed Além Paraíba in 1923.
