Itaparica is a municipality in the state of Bahia, Brazil, located on the island of the same name in the Bay of All Saints (Baía de Todos-os-Santos). It is one of two municipalities on the island; Itaparica covers about 13 percent of the island's land area, while the remainder belongs to the neighbouring municipality of Vera Cruz.
The municipality has a population of 22,337 and covers an area of 115.922 square kilometres (44.758 square miles). Its administrative centre lies on the island's western side, facing the bay and the city of Salvador, which lies across the water to the east.
Because the island sits close to Salvador, Itaparica is reached by ferry and passenger boat services across the bay, and the municipality is known as a quieter alternative to the state capital. The island's beaches and its relative proximity to Salvador have long made it a destination for day trips and short stays.
