Murici is a municipality situated in the eastern region of the Brazilian state of Alagoas. It covers a total area of 424 square kilometers (164 square miles) and had a recorded population of 28,333 as of 2020.

The municipality faces significant socioeconomic challenges despite receiving substantial public funding. According to reports from Veja magazine, the city lags behind most other Brazilian municipalities in human development indicators. The local population experiences high rates of illiteracy at 30.6%, and 65% of its inhabitants rely on federal funds for their livelihood.

The Human Development Index (HDI) for Murici is recorded at 0.58, a figure noted to be slightly lower than the HDI of Iraq, which stands at 0.59.
