Louvain-la-Neuve is a planned town located in the municipality of Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve within the Wallonia region of Belgium. It is situated in the province of Walloon Brabant, approximately 30 km southeast of Brussels.
The town was specifically constructed to house the Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain), an institution that owns the entire territory of the town. The establishment of this site followed linguistic disputes in Belgium during the 1960s regarding Flemish claims of discrimination at the Catholic University of Leuven. These events led to the split of the original institution into two entities: the Dutch-language Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, which remained in Leuven, and the Université catholique de Louvain.
