Middelkerke is a municipality situated in the province of West Flanders within the Flanders region of Belgium. Located on the North Sea coast, the municipality is positioned to the west of the city of Ostend.
The municipality covers a total area of 75.65 km² and encompasses several villages, including Leffinge, Lombardsijde, Mannekensvere, Middelkerke proper, Schore, Sint-Pieters-Kapelle, Slijpe, Westende, and Wilskerke. As of January 1, 2006, the population was recorded at 17,841, resulting in a population density of approximately 236 inhabitants per km².
