Kessel-Lo

Belgium

Kessel-Lo is a sub-municipality of the city of Leuven in the province of Flemish Brabant, in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It lies immediately to the east of Leuven's city centre, on the opposite bank of the river from the historic core, and functions as one of the city's constituent districts rather than as an independent municipality.

Until 1977 Kessel-Lo was a separate municipality in its own right. On 1 January 1977 it was merged into Leuven and has since been administered as a sub-municipality of the city. Its status today is therefore that of a district within a larger urban authority, and its local affairs are handled as part of Leuven's municipal administration.
