Gawler is an established country town located in the state of South Australia. Founded in 1839, the settlement was named in honor of George Gawler, who served as the second Governor of the colony of South Australia.
The town is situated approximately 40–44 km (25–27 mi) north of Adelaide, the state capital. It is positioned near the Barossa Valley, which is a major wine-producing region. Geographically, Gawler sits at the confluence of the North and South Para rivers, two tributaries of the Gawler River that emerge from a range of low hills.
