Thaur is a municipality in the district of Innsbruck-Land, in the Austrian state of Tyrol. It lies about 5 km east of Innsbruck, the state capital, between the towns of Rum and Hall in Tirol.
Its position places it in the Inn valley on the eastern approach to Innsbruck, within a cluster of communities that make up the wider suburban area around the city. As a municipality in Innsbruck-Land, it belongs to the administrative district that surrounds Innsbruck and contains many of the settlements immediately adjoining it.
Thaur is best known for its location relative to Innsbruck and Hall in Tirol, both of which lie close by, and for its status as one of the municipalities forming the eastern outskirts of the Innsbruck area.
