Steinach am Brenner

Austria

Steinach am Brenner is a market town in the district of Innsbruck-Land, in the Austrian state of Tyrol. It lies south of Innsbruck in the Wipptal, the valley of the Sill River, which flows through the town.

The town takes its name from its position on the route to the Brenner Pass, the Alpine crossing that links Tyrol with South Tyrol and Italy. Situated in the Wipptal, it forms part of the corridor running south from Innsbruck toward the pass.

As a market town (Marktgemeinde), Steinach am Brenner is one of the settlements of the Innsbruck-Land district, the administrative district surrounding the Tyrolean capital. It is located on the Sill, in the valley that carries traffic and settlement between Innsbruck and the Brenner route.
