Stams

Austria

Stams is a municipality in the Imst District of the Austrian state of Tyrol. It lies in the western part of the country, within the Alpine region of Tyrol.

The town is chiefly known for Stams Abbey, a Cistercian monastery founded in 1273 by Count Meinhard II of Gorizia-Tyrol and his wife. The abbey is the settlement's defining landmark and the main reason for its historical prominence.
