Mariastein is a municipality in the Kufstein district of the Austrian state of Tyrol. It is the smallest municipality in that district. It lies about 4 kilometres north of Wörgl and roughly 11.5 kilometres southwest of Kufstein.
The place was already a pilgrimage destination in the fifteenth century. Its standing as a pilgrimage site grew after a local statue of Mary, which had been removed to Bavaria in the late seventeenth century, was said to have returned to the church in Mariastein on its own.
