Lermoos

Austria

Lermoos is a municipality in the district of Reutte, in the Austrian state of Tyrol. It lies in the Außerfern, the part of Tyrol that sits in the Alps of western Austria, close to the border with Germany.

The village is known as a mountain resort, set among the peaks of the Lechtal Alps and the Zugspitze massif, and it forms part of the Zugspitz Arena holiday region together with neighbouring communities such as Ehrwald and Biberwier. Its elevation and location give it a role in both winter and summer tourism.

Lermoos is also a stop on the Außerfernbahn railway, which links the Reutte district with Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria. The surrounding area is characterised by alpine terrain, with the local economy long shaped by tourism and mountain agriculture.
