Kössen is a municipality in the Kitzbühel district in the Austrian state of Tyrol. It lies in the eastern Alps of western Austria, near the border with Germany.
The town is located about 24 km north of Kitzbühel and roughly 15.5 km north of Sankt Johann in Tirol. It sits on the Kitzbühler Ache, a river in the Kitzbühel Alps region.
Its position close to the German border makes it one of the more northerly communities in the district, and the surrounding area is known for its alpine setting.
