Ehrwald is a municipality in the district of Reutte, in the Austrian state of Tyrol. It is located in the western part of the country, in the Außerfern region near the border with Germany.
The village sits at the foot of the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain, which lies just across the border and is a defining feature of the local landscape. Ehrwald is part of the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena, a group of resorts that share access to the surrounding Alpine terrain.
Its setting among the Ammergau Alps and the Mieming Range makes it a base for hiking in summer and skiing in winter. The municipality is connected by road and rail to Reutte, the district capital, and to Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany.
