Spital am Semmering

Austria

Spital am Semmering is a municipality in the district of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag in the Austrian state of Styria. It lies in the Semmering Pass, the mountain crossing that links Styria with Lower Austria.

The area is known for the Stuhleck ski hill, which rises above the village and forms the basis of its winter tourism.

The settlement's recorded history begins in 1160, when it was largely endowed by seven of the Margrave of Styria's ministeriales. That endowment included income from extensive estates, vineyards and a town.
