Pusterwald is a municipality in the district of Murtal, in the Austrian state of Styria. It is located in the mountainous region of Upper Styria, in the south-central part of the country.
As a municipality, Pusterwald is one of the constituent local administrative units of the Murtal district, which was formed in 2012 through the merger of the former Judenburg and Knittelfeld districts. The area is characterised by its alpine setting, with the surrounding landscape dominated by the ranges and valleys typical of this part of Styria.
Like many small municipalities in the region, Pusterwald is a rural community with a modest population. It lies within the traditional Styrian landscape of scattered settlements and farmland, at a considerable elevation relative to the provincial capital of Graz to the southeast.
