Mühlen is a municipality in the district of Murau, in the Austrian state of Styria. It is a small rural community located in the mountainous region of Upper Styria, in the south-central part of the country.
The area lies within the traditional region of the Murtal, the valley of the Mur river, which flows through the district of Murau. Like much of this part of Styria, the surroundings are characterised by alpine terrain, with forested slopes and elevations typical of the eastern Alps.
Mühlen is one of the smaller municipalities that make up the Murau district, a largely rural administrative area. As with other communities in the region, its character is shaped by its alpine setting and its place within the broader Styrian landscape.
