Mautern in Steiermark is a municipality in the district of Leoben in the Austrian state of Styria. It is a small community in the mountainous central part of the country, within the federal province of Styria (Steiermark).
The municipality shares its name with the better-known town of Mautern an der Donau in Lower Austria, but the two are distinct places in different provinces. Mautern in Steiermark belongs to the Leoben district, one of Styria's administrative subdivisions, whose seat is the city of Leoben.
As a municipality, it forms one of the local administrative units through which the district and province are organised, with its own municipal government. It lies in the Alpine region of Upper Styria, an area historically associated with iron mining and metalworking around Leoben and the surrounding valleys.
