Halbenrain is a municipality in the district of Südoststeiermark, in the Austrian state of Styria. It lies in the southeastern part of the country, within a district whose name means "Southeast Styria."
The municipality is one of a number of small communities that make up the Südoststeiermark district, a largely rural area of Styria. Like other municipalities in the region, it is administered as a single local government unit that may include several smaller settlements and surrounding countryside.
Halbenrain is also known for Halbenrain Castle, a historic estate in the area that has served various institutional functions over time. Beyond its status as a municipality within the district and its location in southeastern Austria, the community is chiefly notable as one of the many small, quiet localities that characterize this part of Styria.
