Gamlitz

Austria

Gamlitz is a municipality in the district of Leibnitz, in the Austrian region of Styria. It lies among and between rolling hills, a setting reflected in its earliest recorded name.

In the first known document that mentions the settlement, it is called Gomilnitz. That name is a reference either to the Slavic word gomilca, denoting a small hill, or to gom. The tradition of the local castle goes back to the year 1111.
