Frohnleiten

Austria

Frohnleiten is a town in the district of Graz-Umgebung, in the Austrian state of Styria. It lies in the south-eastern part of Austria, within the federal state whose capital is Graz, and it belongs administratively to the district that surrounds that city.

The town is situated in the Mur valley, a river corridor that runs through this part of Styria, and it sits at the northern end of the Graz Basin where the landscape begins to rise toward the surrounding hills. This position along the Mur has long made it a crossing and route point on the road and rail lines connecting Graz with the north.

Frohnleiten is a small town rather than a large city, and it serves as a local centre for the communities around it. Its historic core, with buildings grouped near the river and the parish church, reflects its long-standing role as a market and administrative settlement in the region.
